Detailed Itinerary

D1 Arrival in Kochi
Land at Kochi International Airport and transfer to your hotel in atmospheric Fort Kochi, where Portuguese, Dutch, and British influences mingle in the coastal air. In the late afternoon, stroll to the waterfront to watch fishermen operate the iconic Chinese cantilevered fishing nets against the setting sun — a scene unchanged for centuries. In the evening, attend a Kathakali dance performance, where elaborately costumed performers tell epic Hindu stories through intricate eye movements and hand gestures. Travel tip: arrive early to watch the artists apply their dramatic makeup on stage — it is half the show.
D2 Kochi Discovery
Spend the morning on a walking tour through Fort Kochi's layered history: visit Mattancherry Palace with its exquisite Hindu murals, the 16th-century Jewish Synagogue in the fragrant spice quarter, and the Dutch Cemetery where colonial merchants rest beneath tropical trees. Stop for a lunch of Kerala-style fish curry wrapped in banana leaf, then browse the spice market where the air is thick with the scent of cardamom, cloves, and black pepper — the very spices that first drew traders to this coast.
D3 Kochi to Munnar
Depart Kochi for the scenic drive east to Munnar, climbing through the Western Ghats as the air turns cooler and the landscape transforms into an endless carpet of emerald tea bushes. After checking into your hill station hotel, take an afternoon walk through tea plantations, learning how tea leaves are plucked, withered, rolled, and oxidized from a knowledgeable plantation worker. Sip a fresh cup of Munnar tea as mist rolls over the hills and the scent of freshly cut leaves drifts through the air.
D4 Munnar Tea Country
Explore Munnar's natural wonders, starting with Eravikulam National Park, home to the endangered Nilgiri tahr — a sure-footed mountain goat found only in these hills — and blanketed in blue neelakurinji flowers if you are lucky enough to visit during their twelve-year blooming cycle. Visit the Tea Museum to trace the history of Munnar's plantations from colonial times to today, then head to Mattupetty Dam for boating and peaceful water views. For lunch, try appam with stew — soft rice pancakes with a fragrant coconut-milk vegetable curry.
D5 Munnar to Alleppey
Descend from the highlands to the coastal plain of Alleppey (Alappuzha) and board your traditional kettuvallam houseboat — a graceful vessel with curved thatched roof, handcrafted from jackwood and coconut fiber. As the boat drifts gently through the palm-fringed backwaters, watch village life unfold along the banks: women washing clothes on stone steps, children waving from the shore, and kingfishers diving for fish. Enjoy a fresh lunch and dinner prepared by your onboard chef, featuring Karimeen pollichathu — pearl spot fish grilled in banana leaf. Fall asleep to the lapping of water against the hull under a canopy of stars.
D6 Alleppey to Kovalam
Wake to the sound of birdsong and the gentle rocking of your houseboat. After a final breakfast on board, dock in Alleppey and drive to Kovalam, Kerala's most famous beach destination. Check into your resort near the iconic lighthouse beach, then indulge in your included Ayurvedic massage — warm herbal oils and rhythmic strokes that have been practiced in Kerala for thousands of years. As evening falls, walk the crescent-shaped beach and watch the Arabian Sea swallow the sun in a blaze of orange.
D7 Kovalam Beach Day
Enjoy a free day in Kovalam to do as little or as much as you like. Lounge on the golden sands, swim in the gentle surf, book another Ayurvedic treatment, or join an optional day trip to Kanyakumari at India's southern tip where three oceans meet. Surf lessons, yoga classes, and fresh coconut stalls line the beach. In the evening, gather for a farewell dinner of Kerala seafood — lobster, tiger prawns, and fish moilee — eaten with your hands on a banana leaf as the waves provide the soundtrack.
D8 Departure
Enjoy a final South Indian breakfast of crispy dosa, coconut chutney, and a frothy filter coffee before your transfer to Trivandrum Airport. Reflect on eight days across the deep south: the rainbow-colored labyrinth of Madurai's Meenakshi Temple, the emerald serenity of Kerala's backwaters drifting past on a houseboat, and the golden sands of Kovalam at sunset. Pick up banana chips, Kerala spices, or aromatic Ayurvedic oils as souvenirs of God's Own Country. Namaskaram and safe travels — until the spices and serenity of South India call you back.
