Detailed Itinerary

D1 Arrival in Kathmandu
Namaste! Welcome to Nepal. Your guide meets you at Tribhuvan International Airport and navigates the bustling streets to your hotel in Thamel, Kathmandu's lively traveler district. After settling in, attend a trek briefing where your guide reviews the route, altitude profile, packing list, and safety protocols. Evening welcome dinner at a traditional Nepali restaurant with dal bhat, the staple meal of lentils and rice that will fuel your trek. Exchange introductions with your fellow trekkers and guide team over hot chai. Pack your daypack tonight — tomorrow the adventure begins.
D2 Kathmandu to Pokhara
After an early breakfast, embark on a scenic 6-7 hour drive westward through terraced valleys and along the Trishuli River — or opt for the 25-minute flight for a mountain panorama en route. Arrive in Pokhara, Nepal's lakeside city, with its backdrop of the Annapurna massif. Check into your hotel and take an afternoon boat ride on Phewa Lake with Fishtail Mountain reflected in its still waters. Visit the lakeside market for any last-minute trekking gear. Dinner on the lakeside strip with views of the mountains turning gold in the setting sun.
D3 Pokhara to Ulleri via Nayapul
After breakfast, drive to Nayapul, the trailhead, where your porters load up their dokos and you set off on foot. The trail winds through terraced farmlands, across suspension bridges over turquoise rivers, and through rhododendron forests that blaze red in spring. Lunch at a trailside tea house looking up at the first snow peaks. The final section is the famous Ulleri staircase — over 3,000 stone steps climbing steeply to tonight's tea house. Pace yourself, take breaks, and drink water constantly. Arrive in Ulleri with a sense of accomplishment and your first true Himalayan sunset. The tea house serves simple hot meals and hot showers (for a small fee).
D4 Ulleri to Ghorepani
Today's trek climbs through magnificent rhododendron forests that erupt in a riot of red, pink, and white blossoms in March and April. The trail is gentler than yesterday's staircase, with stone-paved paths winding through moss-draped oaks. As you gain altitude, the air cools noticeably and the first peaks of the Annapurna range start peeping through gaps in the forest. Arrive in Ghorepani by mid-afternoon, a charming village perched on a ridge. Find a sunny spot on the tea house deck with hot ginger tea and your first clear view of Dhaulagiri. Tip: sleep early tonight — tomorrow's pre-dawn start will be worth every minute of missed sleep.
D5 Poon Hill Sunrise & Tadapani
Wake at 4:30 AM and hike by headlamp for 45 minutes to Poon Hill (3,210m). Find a spot as the sky slowly brightens behind the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges, then explodes in a symphony of alpenglow — gold, pink, orange washing across ten different peaks over 7,000 meters. This is one of the most accessible and spectacular Himalayan sunrises anywhere. After photos return to the tea house for breakfast, then continue trekking through changing forests to Tadapani, where the close-up view of Annapurna South dominates the skyline. Hot dal bhat, warm blankets, and star-filled skies complete the day.
D6 Tadapani to Ghandruk
Descend through oak and rhododendron forests into the valley of the Modi Khola, where Gurung villages cling to terraced hillsides. Ghandruk, one of the largest Gurung settlements in the region, welcomes you with its slate-roofed houses, winding cobbled lanes, and an excellent Gurung cultural museum filled with traditional costumes and photographs. Have lunch at a cafe with spectacular views of Annapurna South and Hiunchuli. Spend the afternoon wandering the village, chatting with locals, and watching golden eagles riding thermals. Farewell dinner with your trekking crew — celebrate with a bottle of Everest beer.
D7 Ghandruk to Pokhara & Departure
After a final mountain breakfast, descend through terraced fields to the roadhead below, passing schoolchildren in neat uniforms and farmers working their plots. Transfer to Pokhara, and if time allows, squeeze in a farewell lakeside lunch before heading to the airport. As your plane lifts above Pokhara, the Annapurnas fill your window one last time — carrying with you the camaraderie of the trail, the kindness of tea house families, and the profound peace of the mountains. Pheri betaula — see you again, Nepal.
