Detailed Itinerary

D1 Arrival in Kathmandu
Arrive in Kathmandu and transfer to your Thamel hotel. Your guide conducts a thorough trek briefing and equipment check — the Manaslu Circuit is a serious teahouse trek requiring proper gear and the right permits, which your team has already arranged. Travel tip: rent a high-quality down jacket and sleeping bag in Thamel; the quality is excellent and it saves packing space on your international flight.
D2 Kathmandu Exploration
Explore Kathmandu's spiritual heart: climb the steps to Swayambhunath Stupa, where the all-seeing eyes of Buddha gaze out over the valley and monkeys scamper among prayer wheels. Continue to the immense white dome of Boudhanath, one of the largest stupas in the world, and end at Pashupatinath, Nepal's most sacred Hindu temple complex on the banks of the holy Bagmati River. In the afternoon, pick up any last trekking essentials and repack your duffel for the porter team.
D3 Drive to Soti Khola
Set off on a scenic drive from Kathmandu to Soti Khola, winding through terraced hillsides, past tumbling rivers and villages where daily life unfolds in fields of millet and mustard. The road steadily deteriorates as you approach the trailhead, offering a preview of the adventure ahead. Arrive at the small settlement of Soti Khola by late afternoon, surrounded by the sound of the Burhi Gandaki River, and settle into your first tea house.
D4 Soti Khola to Machha Khola
Begin your trek in earnest, following the thundering Burhi Gandaki River upstream through terraced fields and Gurung villages where children wave from doorways and goats scatter at your approach. The trail alternates between shady forest paths and sun-drenched clearings with views of distant peaks. Arrive at Machha Khola for the night and enjoy your first trail dinner of dal bhat — the trekker's fuel, served with seconds at every meal.
D5 Machha Khola to Jagat
Trek through a dramatic stretch of the Burhi Gandaki gorge, where the trail clings to cliff sides and crosses rickety-but-safe suspension bridges swaying high above turquoise rapids. Pass through rocky narrows and emerge at the village of Jagat, a checkpoint for the Manaslu restricted area. The vibe shifts perceptibly here — you are now entering Tibetan-influenced territory, and the Buddhist chortens and mani walls along the path grow more numerous.
D6 Jagat to Deng
Cross into the upper reaches of the valley, where the architecture and culture shift unmistakably toward Tibet. Stop at wayside monasteries to spin prayer wheels and receive a blessing from a resident lama. Arrive in Deng, a small settlement where the gompa roof glints in the afternoon sun, and spend the night at a simple but welcoming tea house, watching the stars emerge over the jagged ridge above.
D7 Deng to Namrung
Climb through magnificent rhododendron forests, their twisted trunks festooned with moss and lichen, as the valley opens to reveal the first distant views of Manaslu's snow-draped summit. Arrive at Namrung, a charming village where the views grow ever more dramatic. The afternoon light on Manaslu's north face is spectacular, and you will likely spend an hour just watching the mountain change color as the sun descends.
D8 Namrung to Samagaon
Trek to Samagaon, a substantial village at 3,530 meters with one of the best mountain views on the entire circuit — Manaslu's massive north face dominates the horizon. Today is both a trekking day and an acclimatization stop; spend the afternoon exploring the village, visiting the ancient monastery, and watching yaks graze in high pastures beneath the mountain. The altitude is now serious — move slowly and drink four liters of water today.
D9 Samagaon to Samdo
Take a short but scenic trek from Samagaon to Samdo, a village so close to the Tibetan border that you can see the plateau beyond. The landscape becomes increasingly alpine, with juniper scrub and glacial streams replacing forest. Explore Samdo in the afternoon — its stone houses and prayer flag-draped monastery feel like a piece of old Tibet preserved in time.
D10 Samdo to Dharmasala
Push higher to Dharmasala, the last settlement before the pass. At 4,460 meters, the air is thin and every step takes effort, but the views of the Larkya Glacier and surrounding peaks are otherworldly. Arrive at the spartan high camp in the early afternoon and spend the rest of the day resting, hydrating, and mentally preparing for the big day tomorrow. The stars at this altitude, unpolluted by any artificial light, are a dazzling carpet.
D11 Cross Larkya La to Bhimthang
Wake well before dawn for the big day: a steady climb in darkness to the summit of Larkya La at 5,106 meters, where prayer flags snap in the wind and a 360-degree panorama of Himalayan giants — Manaslu, Himalchuli, Annapurna II, and countless others — stretches in every direction. The sense of achievement is overwhelming. After celebrating at the pass, begin the long but glorious descent past glacial lakes and moraines to Bhimthang, where the green returns and warm tea house hospitality awaits. Sleep deeply tonight, exhausted and euphoric.
D12 Departure
Trek down through alpine meadows ablaze with wildflowers (in season) to Dharapani, where the trail joins the Annapurna Circuit. From here, board a jeep for the drive to Besisahar, then continue by road back to Kathmandu. Arrive in the evening, dusty and tired but forever changed by the mountain. A hot shower and a farewell dinner in Thamel cap one of the great Himalayan adventures.
