Detailed Itinerary

D1 Arrival & Phnom Penh to Battambang
Arrive at Phnom Penh airport in the morning, meet your guide, and immediately set off on the scenic drive northwest to Battambang through sugar palm-studded countryside. After checking into your hotel, take an evening walk along the Sangker River where the pace of life slows to a gentle rhythm. Travel tip: Battambang is Cambodia's artistic heart — keep an eye out for small galleries and street murals tucked down its leafy lanes.
D2 Battambang Discovery
Kick off with a ride on the famous bamboo train — a minimalist bamboo platform on wheels that races along old railway tracks through rice paddies and sleepy villages, the wind in your hair and the countryside rushing past. Then climb the steps of Wat Banan, a hilltop Angkorian temple often called a mini Angkor Wat, for sweeping views of the patchwork plains below. In the late afternoon, head to Phnom Sampeau to explore hilltop temples and the sobering Killing Caves, before witnessing the spectacular sunset bat exodus — millions of bats spiraling out of a cave mouth in a dark, swirling column against the twilight sky.
D3 Battambang to Cardamom Mountains
Journey south into the Cardamom Mountains, Southeast Asia's largest remaining rainforest and one of its last true wildernesses. Arrive at Chi Phat, a pioneering community-based ecotourism village, where former poachers now work as guides and homestay hosts. After a home-cooked lunch of local Khmer dishes, take a gentle afternoon walk through the village to meet residents and learn about the grassroots conservation efforts that have turned this into a model for sustainable tourism.
D4 Cardamom Jungle Trek
Venture deep into the Cardamom jungle on a full-day trek with a local guide who knows every bird call and animal track. Hike beneath a towering canopy of dipterocarp trees, keeping your eyes and ears open for hornbills swooping overhead and gibbons calling across the valleys. Cool off with a swim beneath a cascading jungle waterfall, its clear pool fringed by ferns and butterflies — a scene of pristine tropical beauty. Enjoy a packed lunch in the forest and return to the village by late afternoon, tired but exhilarated.
D5 Mangrove Kayaking
Trade your hiking boots for a paddle as you slide a kayak into the mangrove-lined estuaries at the edge of the Cardamoms. Glide silently through narrow channels where roots tangle overhead and kingfishers dart among the branches — the only sounds are the dip of your paddle and the distant call of a hornbill. After lunch, bid farewell to the jungle and drive back to Phnom Penh, arriving in the evening with time for a farewell dinner of grilled river fish and cold Angkor beer.
D6 Departure
Enjoy a final Cambodian breakfast — perhaps bai sach chrouk, grilled pork with rice, washed down with strong Khmer coffee — before your transfer to Phnom Penh Airport. Reflect on six remarkable days: the silent stone faces of Angkor at dawn, the turquoise waterfalls and teeming jungle of the Cardamom Mountains, and the warm hospitality that defines Cambodia. Pick up Cardamom honey or forest-grown pepper as gifts that support local conservation efforts. Safe travels — chum reap lear, and may the Kingdom of Wonder stay in your heart.
