Detailed Itinerary
D1 Arrival in Phnom Penh
Land at Phnom Penh International Airport and transfer to your hotel in the heart of Cambodia's capital. After settling in, take an evening stroll along the Mekong River promenade as the sun sinks behind the Royal Palace spires, then dine at a riverside restaurant on fish amok — Cambodia's signature coconut curry steamed in a banana leaf cup. Travel tip: Cambodian cuisine is milder and sweeter than Thai; try the Kampot pepper crab if it is in season.
D2 Royal Palace & History
Spend the morning exploring the magnificent Royal Palace complex, where golden roofs and glittering spires reflect in manicured gardens, then step into the Silver Pagoda to marvel at its floor of solid silver tiles and the emerald Buddha. After a lunch of beef lok lak, head to the National Museum to admire the world's finest collection of Khmer sculpture. End the afternoon at Wat Phnom, the hilltop temple that gave the city its name, before a leisurely evening exploring the riverfront.
D3 Killing Fields & S21
Prepare for an emotionally powerful day as you visit the Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum (S-21), a former high school transformed into a Khmer Rouge prison, where haunting photographs document the faces of those who passed through its gates. Continue to the Killing Fields of Choeung Ek, where a gleaming glass stupa filled with victims' skulls offers quiet testimony and reflection. Return to the city in the afternoon, then board a sunset cruise on the Mekong — the gentle river breeze and golden light offer space for contemplation and a deeper appreciation of Cambodia's resilience.
D4 Departure
Spend a free morning exploring the Art Deco dome of the Central Market (Phsar Thmei), haggling for silver jewelry, silk scarves, and aromatic Kampot pepper. Soak in the last sights of Phnom Penh over a final Cambodian coffee before your transfer to the airport. Depart with a deeper understanding of this complex, beautiful country — its warm people and tragic history intertwined.
